The future of AI looks promising but we know enterprise IT isn't quite ready to dive in headfirst.
The latest Six Colors 2025 Apple in the Enterprise Report Card reveals a fascinating tension: while over half of Mac admins are open to AI tools and nearly two-thirds are actively managing Apple Intelligence features, there's a clear undercurrent of caution.
The data tells a story of cautious interest rather than resistance. When surveyed about comfort levels with different AI deployment models:
- Only 33% would limit usage to on-device AI models exclusively
- Nearly 50% would be comfortable with both on-device AI models and Apple's Private Cloud Compute
- Just 18% would allow everything, including third-party AI tools
As one admin put it: "We need to understand exactly what data is being sent to third-party providers and have the ability to prevent it if necessary."
This isn't about resisting innovation. It's about responsible implementation. And that's where we come in.
What Admins Actually Want
IT teams aren't asking for fewer features. They're asking for better ways to manage them. The report highlights four critical improvements admins need:
- Clear, consistent controls: Admins want an "all-encompassing 'disable Apple Intelligence' device management (MDM) key" rather than chasing moving targets.
- Granular settings: Current controls remain fragmented across different OS releases.
- Detailed documentation: Beyond feature descriptions, admins need implementation guidance and audit procedures.
- Predictable release schedules: Enterprises need time for testing, security evaluation, and compliance assessment.
